Output characteristics of the CuCl double-pulse laser at small pumping pulse delays

An investigation of the two output energies at 5106 and 5782 A of a CuCl double-pulse laser has shown that the two have different dependences on the delay between pulses. The 5782-A transition, normally the lower-gain and lower-power one, becomes dominant at small values of the delay time between pulses. This effect is observable at all values of the CuCl vapor pressure but is especially obvious at low CuCl concentration. This differential dependence is attributed to the difference between the relaxation times of the two metastable Cu laser terminal states.
