Minerals in the economic development of the Four Corners region

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7093527
During the long geologic history of what is now the Four Corners Area, the events and processes of mineral deposition have contributed to what has become the wide diversity of mineral resources to be found within these four states. Both the basin and range province of western Utah, southern Arizona, and southwestern New Mexico and the central ranges of the Rocky Mountains, in Colorado and Northern New Mexico, have proven to be major sources of metallic mineral deposits. In addition, the Colorado Plateau and adjacent areas covered by thick layers of sedimentary rocks have been found to be among the nation's principal sources of certain industrial minerals as well as both solid and fluid fuel materials.
