Inelastic scattering of /sup 11/B from /sup 40/Ca

Angular distributions have been measured for inelastic scattering of /sup 11/B+/sup 40/Ca at E/sub lab/=51.5 MeV leading to the first 1/2/sup -/ state in /sup 11/B and the first 2/sup +/, 3/sup -/, and 5/sup -/ states in /sup 40/Ca. Distorted-wave Born-approximation calculations reproduce the data quite well and are of quality equal to that of coupled channels calculations. Along with the conventional, deformed Woods-Saxon potential, the analysis employed the double-folding model to fit the inelastic data. The nuclear deformation lengths of the double-folding model agree well with the experimental B(EL) values.
