Polarization in elastic. pi. /sup +/-, K/sup +/-meson and proton scattering by protons at momentum 45 GeV/c

The polarization parameter P is measured in elastic ..pi../sup +/p, K/sup +/p, and pp scattering at the momentum 45 GeV/c for 4-momentum transfers from -0.08 to -1.1 (GeV/c)/sup 2/ for pp scattering and from -0.08 to -0.9 (GeV/c)/sup 2/ for ..pi../sup +/p and K/sup +/p scattering. The energy dependence of the polarization P (t) in ..pi../sup +/p and K/sup +/p scattering above 6 GeV/c is consistent with the interference between the Pomeron and the Reggeon. On the other hand, the polarization in elastic pp scattering decreases faster than is predicted by the conventional Regge-pole model. This result may be due to interference between the Pomeron amplitudes with and without change of helicity, thus resulting in a negative polarization.
