Ozone-herbicide interactions in crop plants

Journal Article · · Weed Sci. Soc. Am. Abstr.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7089851
Three plant species; tomato, white bean and tobacco (varieties Delhi 34 and White Gold) were pretreated with herbicides at 0, 1 and 2 times the recommended rates prior to fumigation with ozone at 0, 7.5, 15.0, or 30.0 pphm for two 1.5 hr periods to test for phytotoxic ozone-herbicide interactions. Synergistic phytotoxicity was observed for pebulate or chloramben in combination with ozone on tobacco Delhi 34 and White Gold or Delhi 34, respectively. An antagonistic interaction was observed between trifluralin and ozone on white bean and tomato. For all other combinations; chloramben or monolinuron on white bean, diphenamid on tomato, and chloramben or benefin on tobacco White Gold or Delhi 34 and White Gold, respectively, the phytotoxicity in the presence of ozone was additive and no interaction was indicated.
