Predicting waterflood performance

Waterflood performance at constant-injection or other preset rates may be quickly evaluated by a new procedure. The method makes use of the calculations from the Higgins-Leighton constant-pressure evaluation. And performance data so determined provide the basic information for an economic evaluation. The effects of relative permeability--which appreciably influences recovery oil--are accounted for. Also, the method includes the use of layers to determine the effect of vertical-permeability variations. From this and other information made available by the new method, the constant-rate injection pumps can be designed. The predicted performance at constant pressure can be used to obtain predicted performance history at constant-injection rate, during the entire life of the flood. Performances can also be predicted for stagewise changes in injection rates, or even for continuously changing rates.
