Performance characteristics of the 10 mm cyclone respirable mass sampler. I. Monodisperse studies

Journal Article · · Am. Ind. Hyg. Assoc. J.; (United States)

The 10 mm cyclone respirable mass sampler (coal mine dust personal sampler) was evaluated to determine the flow rate which best matched the British Medical Research Council and the Los Alamos Atomic Energy Commission-American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists criteria and to determine effects of pulsating flow, particle charge, mass loading and sampler orientation. The work with monodisperse aerosol is described. The best match for BMRC was 1.4 lpm; for LASL, 1.7 lpm. The two separate criteria should be merged. The 10 mm cyclone is better for sampling logistics than the BMRC horizontal elutriator.
