Superfund Record of Decision (EPA Region 2): Conklin Dumps, Broome County, Conklin, NY. (First remedial action), March 1991. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7086086
The 8.5-acre Conklin Dumps site is an inactive municipal landfill in Conklin, New York. Land use in the area is rural. The site consists of two municipal landfills referred to as the upper and the lower landfills. The lower landfill is adjacent to the 100-year floodplain of the Susquehanna River, and is bordered by wetlands. Portions of the landfill were operational between 1964 and 1975, and approximately 80,000 cubic meters of waste material were disposed of onsite during this time. In 1985, private investigations identified the presence of leachate seeps from the site and low levels of contaminants in ground water. The first Record of Decision (ROD) addresses containment of landfill leachate, and remediation of contaminated ground water as a final remedy. The primary contaminant of concern affecting the leachate and ground water is chloroethane, a VOC. The selected remedial action for this site is included.
