Spacing, injection pattern are keys to waterflood results

Tighter spacing and an inverted 9-spot injection pattern are paying off for Sun Production Co. in its waterflood at North Jameson Field in Mitchell County. The first innovation in the North Jameson project tightened up the 40-acre spacing typical for a strawn reservoir to 20-acre spacing. With twice as many injection wells, more water can be injected at lower surface injection pressures, and more water under less pressure is the key to a successful flood in this reservoir. The second step for a successful program was selecting the right pattern of injection and producing wells. Determining the preferential direction of the reservoir called for an inverted 9-spot pattern that would increase the number of producing wells to injection wells as an interim step. Once the preferential direction has been firmly established, then Sun will probably go to a line-drive pattern to allow injection in the direction of preferential permeability.
