Book ·
OSTI ID:7081276

This book provides a distillation of the view of two industry-based groups with an interest in seeing appropriate human facts research done to the benefit of the Information Technology Industry in Europe. It is deliberately selective in its treatment, focusing on the cognitive and broader psychological aspects of human factors rather than classical ergonomics. Six main characters cover (l) introduction to the concept of 'human factors' as used in the book, and the nature of the ESPRIT programme, (2) definition of the problem, (3) 'species of interaction', focusing on input-output techniques, (4) user's model of the system, (5) 'species of information', focusing on the presentation of electronic information to the user, and (6) key areas for research. Two appendices provide: (a) comments on the current status of Human Factors in ESPRIT - a useful guide for those interested in making proposals, and (b) a selection of key research centers.
