Wound electrode assembly for an electrochemical cell
This patent describes a sealed electrochemical cell having a wound electrode assembly positioned within a container, the electrode assembly having at least one electrode comprised of an electrically conductive substrate and an electrochemically active material secured to at least one face of the substrate, the one electrode defining an outer wrap for the electrode assembly. It comprises: at lest a portion of the substrate on one side thereof in the outer wrap being free of electrochemically active material and directly contacting a portion of the container, and the electrochemically active material being secured to at least a portion of the substrate in the outer wrap on the other side thereof directly opposite the one side making contact with the container.
