Biothermal conversion of biomass and wastes to methane

Conference · · Biotechnol. Bioeng. Symp.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7077785
The BIOTHERMGAS process combines biological and thermochemical unit operations into a scheme that can efficiently convert the full spectrum of biomass or waste feedstocks to methane or other fuel products with minimum process residues. It employs biogasification followed by thermochemical gasification of dewatered refractory digester residues with recycle of nitrogen and other inorganic nutrients from the thermal process effluent to the biogasification unit. Results indicate that this process is technically superior to either biological or thermochemical processes and a preliminary economic analysis and laboratory studies also show this process to be economically and technically feasible. 17 references, 7 figures, 15 tables
