A study has been made on the effects of sodium chloride added by impregnation of the electrodes and of sodium fluoride added in the usual way on the atomic-emission determination of Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Mo, and W in graphite. The NaCl and NaF increase the evaporation rates and reduce the limits of detection to about 10/sup -4/-10/sup -5/%. Two methods have been devised for determining Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Mo and W in graphite, which give s/sub r/ of 0.12-0.30. Sodium chloride impregnation gives limits of detection for Ti, Mo, and Hf lower by half an order of magnitude than that based on sodium fluoride.
