Role of neutron activation analysis in the certification of NBS environmental standard reference materials

Conference · · Trans. Am. Nucl. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7075895
Neutron activation analysis (NAA) is used extensively at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) as one of the analytical techniques in the certification of environmental Standard Reference Materials (SRMs). For an element to be certified, its concentration is usually determined by at least two independent analytical techniques. The potential for accuracy, multielemental capability, ability to assess homogeneity efficiently, high sensitivity for many elements, and its essentially blank-free nature make NAA an extremely valuable tool for SRM certification.
