Downhole pumping in Brazil
Tronic Electronic Services Ltd. (Ulverstron, Cumbria, U.K.) - winners of the 1993 Queens Award for Technological Achievement - have agreed to partner Brazil's state oil company, Petrobras; Reda/Lasalle; Pirelli; Cooper; and Sade-Vigesa in the installation of what is believed to be the world's first ever electrical subsea pump (ESP). According to a Tronic spokesman, innovative ESP technology is about to realize its first chance to prove how economics of oil fields and field extensions can be significantly improved during the forthcoming months. The exploratory activities of Petrobras to increase Brazilian oil reserves have led to the discovery of giant fields in deep waters off the coast of Rio Da Janeiro state. The new technology development program recently launched by Petrobras is aimed at making exploration of reserves lying in water depths of 1,000 to 2,000 meters both technically and economically feasible. One of the most significant and pioneering aims focuses on the development of subsea electrical submersible pump installations.
