Correlation of hydraulic performance in water and sodium for the CRBRP main coolant pump

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/707476· OSTI ID:707476
This paper examines the sodium and water test results of the CRBRP prototype pump. The objective of the examination is to correlate the hydraulic performance data of the two tests. Test results include the performance of two similar impellers at various operating conditions. It is found that the hydraulic performances in the water test and sodium test are virtually identical. However, the affinity laws as applied to both impeller trimming and thermal growth appear to require significant correction factors, especially for the case of high specific speed pumps (N/sub s/ > 1500).
