An examination of the oxygen pathway during methane oxidation over a Li/MgO catalyst

This Latter presents results of an investigation of the oxygen reaction pathway, using isotope switching experiments, during methane oxidation over a Li/MgO catalyst. Participation of both surface and lattice oxygen in the oxidation of methane was observed. In addition, adsorbed methane was noted to be very short-lived, while the production of CO and CO{sub 2} may proceed via a multistep surface oxidation mechanism.
