The Federal Radiological Emergency Response Plan (FRERP) mandates that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) establish a Federal Radiological Monitoring and Assessment Center (FRMAC) when a major radiological emergency occurs. The Nevada Operations Office (DOE/NV) has played a key role in developing the FRMAC concept. This paper explains the center's concept, summarizes the specific tasks of the FRMAC, and describes its primary output products.
