The contributions from quasars with B less than 20 and Seyfert galaxies of types 1 and 1.5 to the diffuse gamma-ray background are investigated. The quasar contribution is found to be 2.06 + 0.71 or - 0.53 x 10 to the -5th photons/sq cm/s/sq sr, which is about 40 percent of the total background. The contribution of the Seyferts is 1.04 + 1.45 or - 0.61 x 10 to the -5th photons/sq cm/s/sr, or about 20 percent of the total. Thus, the extragalactic gamma-ray background in the 35-100 MeV range is probably generated mainly by discrete extragalactic objects. The results also show that quasars and Seyferts contribute significantly to the 1 MeV bump. 34 references.
