Radionuclide uptake in plants

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7067709

As part of a preliminary evaluation of possible transport paths for radionuclides stored in a deep burial zone, the possibility of plant root penetration and subsequent uptake of the waste was considered. This report summarizes a literature review of plant uptake of the radionuclides {sup 241}Am, {sup 237}Np, {sup 231}Pa, {sup 238-242}Pu, {sup 226}Ra, {sup 229-232}Th, and {sup 233,238}U. The purpose of the review is to determine if plants at the Nevada Test Site uptake radionuclides and if so, by how much. The report discusses studies dealing either specifically with the named radionuclides or more generally with the physics and chemistry of radionuclide uptake by plants. A summary of this information is given at the end of the report. 73 refs., 3 tabs.
