Adaptive optics performance at Lick and Keck observatory
- Lawrence Livermore National Lab., CA (United States)
The performance of an adaptive optics system developed for the 40 inch Nickel and 120 inch Shane telescopes at Lick Observatory is discussed. The system is based on a 69 actuator continuous-surface deformable mirror and a Hartmann wavefront sensor equipped with a commercial intensified CCD fast-framing camera. Results from tests of this adaptive optics system using natural reference stars on the 40 inch Nickel telescope are presented. These results are compared to the performance predicted by simulations and analyses. Predictions for the system performance on the 120 inch Shane telescope and on the 10 meter Keck telescope using both natural and laser reference stars are also presented.
