Multiphonon relaxation rates from delayed laser emission in Nd-YAG crystals

Delayed laser emission from a ND-YAG oscillator pumped by a 532-nm 50-ns pulse is interpreted in terms of multiphonon relaxation from the pumped levels to the upper laser level. The relaxation rate constant, (1.6 +- 0.2) x 10/sup 6/ s/sup -1/, is in good agreement with previous results obtained from the fluorescence rise time.
