This patent describes a method for separating strontium and/or technetium values from a waste sample using a chromatographic separation column. It comprises preparing a nitric acid sample solution of at least about 0.01 Molarity comprising a dissolved form of the strontium and/or technetium values in the waste sample; passing the nitric sample solution through the separation column comprising a solution of a Crown ether in a diluent insoluble in water and capable of dissolving a substantial quantity of water with the Crown ether soluble therein selectively eluting the strontium and/or technetium values by passing water through the separation column.
