Oil and gas in China

Journal Article · · World Oil; (United States)
OSTI ID:7060171
First-hand information was gathered during visits to the oil fields of the People's Republic of China (PRC) so that direct observation rather than speculation could be used in discussing the oil and gas reserves and the state of resource development. The author concludes that secrecy will continue, although some relaxation of restrictions may come about as a result of visits between production and business experts. Oil fields at Shengli, Taching, and Takang appear to be the three largest producing fields and are considered to be comparable to those of major world producers. The delegation visited industrial sites to observe the petroleum industry in operation and to examine drilling equipment. Because of the observations, the author feels the Chinese have made good progress while remaining aware of technological lacks which they hope to eliminate by improving relations with the western countries. Travel recommendations are given to help delegations know what they will encounter in the PRC.
