Thermal equilibrium properties of nonneutral plasma in the weak coupling approximation
- Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey 08543 (United States)
Closed analytical expressions are derived for the mean-square radius [l angle][ital r][sup 2][r angle][sub [ital eq]] of the plasma column and the angular rotation velocity [omega][sub [ital r]], expressed in terms of the nonlinear conservation constraints, [ital N][sub [ital e]]=[integral][ital d][sup 2][ital x][integral][ital d][sup 3][ital p] [ital P][theta][ital f][sub [ital e]]([ital x], [ital p], [ital t])=[ital const]. and [l angle][ital P][sub [theta]][r angle]=[ital N][sub e][sup [minus]1][integral]d[sup 2][ital x][integral]d[sup 3][ital p] [ital P][sub [theta]][ital f][sub [ital e]]([ital x],[ital p],[ital t])=[ital const].[ital ,] which correspond to the total number of electrons per unit axial length and the total canonical angular momentum per unit axial length, respectively. Finally, an exact power-series solution is derived for the thermal equilibrium density profile [ital n][ital ]/[ital deq]([ital r]) as a function of the radial distance [ital r] from the axis of the plasma column.
