The branching ratio ([ital B]) for [eta][r arrow][mu][sup +][mu][sup [minus]] has been measured at the SATURNE tagged-[eta] facility using the reaction [ital pd][r arrow][sup 3]He [eta] as a source of [similar to]10[sup 8] tagged [eta]'s per day. A sample of 100 [eta][r arrow][mu][sup +][mu][sup [minus]] decays on a background of 8 events yield [ital B]([eta][r arrow][mu][sup +][mu][sup [minus]]) =[5.6[sub [minus]0.7][sup +0.6](stat)[plus minus]0.5(syst)][times]10[sup [minus]6]. This value is 1.3[plus minus]0.2 times the unitarity (lower) bound of 4.3[times]10[sup [minus]6], in agreement with most quark and vector meson dominance model predictions.
