The conglomerate-sandstone formation mapped by Keith as the Citico conglomerate (Cc) was split by later authors into numerous parts, which were included either into the Licklog, Licklog ( ), Shields, Wilhite or Sandsuck formations of the Walden Creek Group (WCG) Field revision from the Citico Creek, TN, to Flag Pond, TN, proves out, however, that these occurrences represent tectonically fragmented parts of an extensive conglomerate-sandstone system, which prograded onto the Wilhite Formation (WF). This closely parallel Keith's original concept and argues reinstatement of his Cc. For the purposes of this talk, this lithosome is renamed as the citico Formation (Cf) and defined as follows: conglomerates and sandstones that intertongue with, occur as lenses in, or overlie the WF. Polymictic conglomerates are distinguished by abundant white quartz pebbles and lowermost beds in separate members contain diagnostic dolomite, limestone and other pebbles--boulders derived from the WF. Lower-level sandstones contain carbonate matrix. The lower boundary is placed under the first mappable Citico-type conglomerate or sandstone unit and its stratigraphic position varies significantly from place to place. Great similarity in phenoclasts suggests that the Cf has a close affinity with and same provenance than the Cochran Formation. Consequently, it would be logical to include also the Cf in the Chilhowee Group. As a whole, the Cf seems to represent a long-lived and extensive turbidite-fan system fed from the Chilhowee continental margin prism.
