Temperature rise due to inclusions in polymer bonding agents. [Edge cladding of Nova laser disks]
Abstract
It is concluded that polymer bonded edge cladding is absolutely safe at a maximum flux of 10 kW/cm/sup 2/ for carbon inclusions if the size of the inclusion in the polymer bonding agent is less than 1 ..mu..m diameter. If the maximum flux level is half that used in the analysis (5 kW/cm/sup 2/), the temperature rise for small diameter inclusions would be half that shown by the curve comparison, dust and iron oxide inclusions of 1 ..mu..m can withstand flux levels of about 140 and 14 kW/cm/sup 2/, respectively. Polymer bonding agent with inclusions of 1 or 2 ..mu..m maximum diameter can be manufactured by filtering the polymer.
