A method of positioning of a treating fluid, such as an acidifying and/or particle-carrying fluid, in a subterranean location, is described. A viscous, aqueous solution that contains a cellulose ether, a fluoride salt, a weak acid, and a weak acid salt is injected into a borehole and subsequently becomes a substantially nonviscous weakly acidic liquid that is capable of dissolving clay.
