In a recent paper it was suggested that a material of composition Sr{sub 0.3}Y{sub 0.9}TaO{sub 4} gives rise to a new luminescence responsible for reduced lag and increased efficiency of M{prime} type YTaO{sub 4} based phosphors. Since this was an interesting proposition the authors have attempted to prepare this material both by the standard flux technology as well as by straightforward solid-state reaction of the components.
