Assisted recovery: acceleration in California

Journal Article · · Calif. Oil World Pet. Ind.; (United States)

The combination of 2 secondary recovery techniques-- fire flooding and steam soaking--is getting considerable attention from oil company engineers, who think the 1-2 treatment might be what is needed for oil recovery. For example, steam soaks and waterfloods have made a striking impact on Union Oil Co. of California's crude oil production. Today 17 out of every 100 bbl of the company's net production comes from secondary recovery, and the amount grows each year. It is anticipated the company will soon be producing 20,000 bpd from secondary recovery. A detailed report is given of the various thermal recovery projects in California.
