Operation Musketeer: Onsite radiological safety report for announced nuclear tests, October 1986--September 1987

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7057205
Musketeer was the name assigned to the series of underground nuclear experiments conducted at the Nevada Test Site from October 1, 1986 through September 30, 1987. This report includes those experiments publicly announced. Remote radiation measurements were taken during and after each nuclear experiment by a telemetry system. Monitors with portable radiation detection instruments surveyed reentry routes into ground zeros before other planned entries were made. Continuous surveillance was provided while personnel were in radiation areas and appropriate precautions were taken to protect persons from unnecessary exposure to radiation and toxic gases. Protective clothing and equipment were issued as needed. Complete radiological safety and industrial hygiene coverage were provided during drilling and mineback operations. Telemetered and portable radiation detector measurements are listed. Detection instrumentation used is described and specific operational procedures are defined.
