(Two-phonon states involving giant resonances in sup 208 Pb)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7056349
The purpose of this foreign travel was to set up and perform an experiment designed to isolate, for the first time, two-phonon states involving giant resonances in {sup 208}Pb. The GANIL laboratory, located in Caen, France, is the only facility in the world which can meet all the requirements imposed by this experiment at the present time. The experiment was carried out successfully, from a technical standpoint. Physics results will be known only after analysis of the data tapes. A meeting with a representative of the French government agency, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), was held by one of the travelers to discuss future collaboration between French and ORNL physicists.
