The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission grants licenses for the operation and possession of nonpower reactors(NPRs). The objective of this effort was to review the current NRC NPR inspection interval class structure from a risk perspective to determine if a more appropriate division was in order. This review was accomplished by considering a set of qualitative risk factors related to the relative risk of each NPR. These factors addressed risks associated with the design of each reactor and the manner in which the reactors were operated and maintained. Based on this review, recommendations were made to revise the current inspection interval classes.
