It is common to mine a coal seam affected by previous extraction of a coal seam below. As a result of that severe problems may occur during the extraction process. This paper presents the analysis of undermining effects based on field observations. A simplified method for the evaluation of risk in undermining operations is presented and predictions of the degree of possible damages to the undermined coal seam is given.
