Observation of laser-induced penning and associative ionization in Li-Li collisions

We report the direct observation of /sup 6/Li/sup +/, /sup 7/Li/sup +/, /sup 1/3Li/sub 2//sup ts+/, /sup 1/4Li/sub 2//sup ts+/ arising from single collisions between beams of lithium atoms in the presence of a laser field. Although the relative intensity of atomic ions relfects the natural isotopic abundance, a pronounced enrichment of /sup 1/3/sub 2//sup ts+/ relative to /sup 1/4/sub 2//sup ts+/ is observed.
