Solar-assisted desiccant cooling systems can help reduce energy consumption for space cooling, especially in hot and humid climates. Restaurants are the most energy intensive commercial businesses in the state of Florida, and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) humidity issues are a major contributor to energy inefficiency. Sources of humidity include the high humidity of the outside air, ventilation and exhaust requirements, and moisture released by cooking operations, sanitation, employees and guests. This article describes the operation of a solar-assisted dessicant cooling system in a Florida restaurant.
