As part of LLNL's 40th anniversary celebration held during 1992, the six former Directors were asked to participate in a lecture series. Each of these men contributed in important ways toward making the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) what it has become today. Each was asked to comment on some of the Laboratory's accomplishments, his career here, his view of the changing world, and where he sees the Laboratory going in the future. Michael M. May, LLNL's fifth Director and now a Director Emeritus, comments on a broad range of issues including arms control, nonproliferation, cooperative security, and the future role of the Laboratory.
