We study the importance of the partonic phase produced in relativistic heavy ion collision by comparing the parton cascade model and the hadronic cascade model. Hadron yield, baryon stopping and transverse momentum distribution are calculated with JAM and discussions are given comparing with VNI. Both of these models give good description of experimental data. We also discuss the strangeness production mechanism and the directed transverse flow. {copyright} {ital 1999 American Institute of Physics.}
