This patent describes a subsea drilling and production system having separate independent units for each wellhead capable of being remotely installed and removed independent of one another by hydraulic control lines operable at the surface of a body of water, comprising: a drilling template positioned on the bottom of a body of water, the template having a plurality of apertures through which wells may be drilled; a casing head established at each well drilled through the template; a Christmas tree for each well removably connected to the casing heads; remotely operable means for removably connecting the Christmas tree to the casing head; and a production unit for each well removably connected to the template, the production unit including manifold piping and control means. The manifold piping includes piping involving production handling, annulus access, gas and fluid lift, gas and fluid injection, pressure maintenance, and the control means including electrical cables and hydraulic piping for signal and energy transmission.
