Laminate linings are alternative to storage-tank replacement

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)

Installation of a laminate lining in two steel storage tanks that were beginning to show signs of corrosion has made replacement of the tanks unnecessary. In 1985, inspection of an 80,000-bbl storage tank containing crude oil at the Frontier Oil and Refining Co., Cheyenne, Wyo., refinery revealed signs of internal corrosion. Penetrations were discovered in the floor and on the lower shell section of the 12-year-old carbon steel tank. The 110-ft diameter, 48-ft high storage tank was used to store low-sulfur crude oil containing less than 1.0 wt % of sulfur.
