trans-TcCl(CO){sub 3}(P(C{sub 6}H{sub 5}){sub 3}){sub 2} (2) is accessible in 95% yield by treatment of the easily available Tc(V) ionic precursor (TcOCl{sub 4}){sup {minus}} (1) with triphenylphosphine in an atmosphere of carbon monoxide (1 atm). 2 is recognized as a useful starting material for subsequent substitution reactions, especially with tridentate nitrogen ligands. Thus, the compounds ((C{sub 6}H{sub 15}N{sub 3})Tc(CO){sub 2}(P(C{sub 6}H{sub 5}){sub 3}))Cl (5) and (HB(C{sub 3}H{sub 3}N{sub 2}){sub 3}Tc(CO){sub 2}(P(C{sub 6}H{sub 5}){sub 3})) (6) were synthesized in good yields. The structures of compounds 2, 5, and 6 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. 2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group. Compound 5 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2{sub 1}/c (No. 14) with a = 12.997 (5) {angstrom}, b = 8.680 (1) {angstrom}, c = 25.189. Compound 6 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group.
