This paper presents data that document relative changes in fluxes and preservation of organic carbon, calcium carbonate and dentrital clastic material within the anoxic deepwater mass of the salinity stratified Black Sea, reflecting changes in climate and runoff over the last 2000 years. Rates of accumulation and characteristics of sedimentary organic components in several subenvironments of the Black sea are compared and the implications for the depositional processes that influenced the accumulation and preservation of organic matter are discussed. 83 refs., 16 figs. 5 tabs.
