Neurobiology of central D - dopamine receptors

The work described in this text is primarily stimulated by the development of two selective d/sub 1/ receptor drugs -- the antagonist SCH 23390 and the agonist SKF 38393. The studies described here show that D/sub 1/ receptors have many behavioral functions which, on the surface, are often similar to those responses mediated by D/sub 2/ receptors. These observations, according to the authors, hold hope for the development of new dopaminergic agents for use in treatment of psychiatric and neurologic diseases that may be more selective in their actions and lack some of the side effects of the D/sub 2/ receptor selective agents.
