Symposium on Performance of Composites in Severe Environments, Boston, MA, Dec. 13-18, 1987, Proceedings
Recent theoretical and experimental investigations of the effects of severe environments on the properties of composite materials are examined in reviews and reports. Topics addressed include second-stage creep of SiC-whisker/Al at 573 K, thermally induced twist in graphite-epoxy tubes, thermal stresses and thermal expansion coefficients of short-fiber composites with sliding interfaces, and transient heat conduction in complex-shaped composite structures. Consideration is given to computer simulation of the uniaxial elastoplastic behavior of paper, modeling microstructural-damage stiffness loss in quasi-isotropic laminates, hygroscopic effects in aramid-fiber/epoxy composite, and temperature-dependent dynamic mechanical properties of polymeric laminated beams.
