Proceedings of the NSF scientific database projects: 1991--1993

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7031396
Selected articles are abstracted and indexed individually. The purpose of these proceedings is to document on-going research in scientific databases. The work is presented in brief, 5 to 6 page summaries written in a Popular Science style, in order to make them understanding to scientific and researchers from a wide variety of fields and disciplines. This volume is organized into four sections, each one corresponding to the four sessions that took place during the AAAS Workshop on Advances in Data Management for the Scientist and Engineer. The first, Biomedical and Chemical Applications, revolves around data management work in the sciences of biology, medicine, and chemistry. The second section, Robotics, Engineering, and Computer Science, turns the field onto itself by presenting data management solutions for engineering and computer science applications. The third section returns to the natural sciences: Data Intensive Tools for the Earth and Space Sciences deals with problems brought about by the sheer size of geological and climatic data. Finally, the fourth section applies to scientific data management in general by presenting tools that can aid researchers in analyzing and discovering new information from scientific data.
