The present conference discusses topics in fiber-optic (FO) cable and network reliability in adverse environments, the fatigue and damage of laser light-sources, damage to optical fibers, radiation effects on optical materials and components, FO characteristics measurement, FO sensor reliability, and test and measurement methods for FO systems. Attention is given to the cyclic fatigue behavior of silica fiber, post-mortem analyses of FO cables, the aging behavior of low strength fused silica fibers, neutron irradiation results on optical fibers operating at 1.3 and 1.55 microns, mechanical testing and reliability of fusion splices, the reliability of FO position sensors, and high impact shock test results for FO components.
