Superfund Record of Decision (EPA Region 2): Ewan Property, NJ. (Second Remedial Action), September 1989. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7027668
The 43-acre Ewan Property site is in the New Jersey Pinelands in Shamong Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. Between 1974 and 1975 the site owner reportedly buried uncontained and drummed hazardous wastes in an onsite disposal area. In 1982 the county was informed of the possible hazardous waste dumping and initiated ground water monitoring and soil sampling programs the following year. Both the ground water and soil within the disposal area were found to be contaminated with VOCs and metals. The remedial action represents the second of two operable units for the site. The 1988 Record of Decision addressed the treatment of 4,500 cubic yards of source waste including buried drums and other heavily contaminated materials. The second operable unit addresses the remediation of the residual soil which will remain after implementation of the first operable unit and the treatment of the contaminated ground water. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil and ground water are VOCs including benzene, PCE, TCE, toluene, and xylenes; and metals including chromium and lead.
