Radio-frequency excited one-dimensional limit parameter waveguide array CO[sub 2] laser
- Beijing Inst. of Technology (China). Optical Engineering Dept.
Since Newman et al. first reported an rf excited waveguide array CO[sub 2] laser in 1986, the technology has greatly interested researchers around the world. To obtain phase-coupled output from a waveguide array laser, a variety of techniques and structures have been proposed in the past few years, such as a hollow-bore ridge waveguide array, a staggered hollow-bore waveguide array, a self-focusing array, and a coherent imaging array. The authors used a limit parameter structure hollow-bore ridge waveguide array to obtain a beam output with a single-peak highly spatially suppressed far-field distribution and a near-field distribution of 13 spots. They achieved 44 W of output power and more than 10% efficiency from a 200-mm gain length.
