This patent describes a gas burner assembly including a manifold having upper and lower sheet metal walls joined together to define a gas supply passage extending to an annular chamber, the upper and lower walls having means defining corresponding upper and lower openings for the chamber, a gas burner unit mounted on the manifold and having concentric inner and outer sheet metal walls defining an annular chamber. The outer wall of the burner unit is seated on the upper wall of the manifold around the upper opening in the upper wall. The inner wall of the burner unit includes an annular shoulder and a reduced tubular section projecting downwardly from the shoulder into the lower opening in the lower wall of the manifold for connecting the annular chamber within the manifold to the annular chamber within the burner unit. The improvement described here comprises a drawn sheet metal fitting including a flange portion projecting outwardly from a tubular portion, the flange portion seated on the annular shoulder, the tubular portion having a corrugated wall configuration in axial cross-section and defining helical threads. The tubular portion projects downwardly from the flange portion within the tubular section of the inner wall of the burning unit. The tubular portion projects through the lower opening within the bottom wall of the manifold. A drawn sheet metal nut member is mounted on the fitting and includes a polygonal portion extending downwardly from an outwardly projecting flange portion engaging the bottom wall of the manifold. The nut member further includes a tubular portion projecting downwardly from the polygonal portion and having a corrugated wall configuration in axial cross- section to form helical threads mating with the threads on the fitting for quickly and positively securing the burner unit to the manifold.
